Multiple technology generations in a single optical infrastructure

DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology addresses the need for high-capacity data transport in extensive optical backbone networks, allowing transmission capacity to be expanded without the need for additional optical fibers. The principle involves using multiple optical signals of different wavelengths in a single optical fiber, thus enabling the deployment of multiple technology generations within a single optical infrastructure. Capacity can be further increased by expanding the multiplex at the fiber ends.
